Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Will Offer Switch 2 Upgrade Path And Cross-Progression

Sega has shared new details about Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on Switch 2, confirming the game will arrive digitally this holiday season on the console with an upgrade path for original Switch owners. Then, next year, the game will get a physical release for Nintendo’s new system with “the full base game on a 64GB cartridge.”

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will launch September 25 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox, and Switch–with preorders already available. This is the first release window Sega has provided for the Switch 2 version, adding that Switch players who pay the $10 upgrade fee for Switch 2 will carry over their progression. That also means the Switch 2 edition of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will cost $70 (the same as PS5 and Xbox Series X) instead of Switch’s price point of $60. Last but not least, cross-platform matchmaking is a go on Switch 2.

The full game on the cartridge is welcome news to Switch 2 owners who dislike Game-Key cards, which unlock a digital version of the title to play. However, like regular cartridges, they can be shared with others and sold. So far, there haven’t been too many Switch 2 titles that have the full game on the cartridge, but Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is gearing up to join that list in 2026.

The Blue Blur and his buddies won’t be the only playable characters in the game. Sonic Racing: CrossWorld is set to feature Hatsune Miku, Persona 5’s Joker, and even SpongeBob SquarePants. For more, check out GameSpot’s Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds preview.

PS Plus Members Can Claim A New Fortnite Skin Right Now

This week’s Fortnite update, the game’s first in a month, brought with it a major goodie for a lot of the folks who play on a PlayStation console: a new PlayStation Plus-exclusive skin. The new Emerald Gamer pack is included at no extra cost with any level of PS Plus membership, and can be claimed in the PlayStation Store on PS4 and PS5, in the PS App, or on the web. In order to unlock the skin in-game, you will need to actually load up Fortnite on a PlayStation device at least once after claiming it from the store. Once you’ve done so, the skin will be usable on any platform.

All PS+ members can claim the Emerald Gamer pack now.

This new pack includes the brand-new Sage skin, as well as a matching back bling and pickaxe. While most PS Plus skins have been redone versions of existing skins, like how the Shinji skin in the previous PS Plus pack was a new variation of Master Key from the Chapter 1 Season 8 battle pass, Sage is actually an original character design. The Emerald Gamer pack will remain in the PlayStation Store until September 23.

The Emerald Gamer pack is the 30th PlayStation Plus pack for Fortnite thus far, and none of the items included in any of the previous packs have ever been sold in the item shop, so these items are generally considered to be exclusive despite not explicitly being stated as such.

Sage is not the only “free” skin currently available in Fortnite. Players who link a Lego account with their Epic account before August 31 will receive a free First Order Stormtrooper from Star Wars, and anyone who redeems a Fortnite or Epic Games Store gift card before the end of 2026 (yes, 2026) will receive the Ghost Monks skin as an added bonus.

Sea Of Thieves Dev Reacts To Mass Xbox Layoffs With A Somber Message

Xbox developer Rare, which today is best known for Sea of Thieves, has commented on the recent mass layoffs at Microsoft that led to the cancellation of the studio’s long-in-development project Everwild.

As part of the Sea of Thieves developer update video for July, Rare production director Drew Stevens started off by addressing the layoffs. “It would be strange to jump straight into our usual updates without acknowledging the news that we’ve ended development on Everwild here at Rare,” Stevens said (via GamesRadar).

The game was formally revealed all the way back in November 2019, but beyond a trailer for it in 2020, updates on it have been almost non-existent. Sources said Rare was unable to find the right direction for Everwild, and now it’s no longer in development.

The cancellation of Everwild didn’t “directly impact” Sea of Thieves, Stevens added, mentioning that development is continuing as planned. “Our focus as a team and a studio is on supporting our friends and colleagues whose roles are at risk,” Stevens said.

The developer went on to say that it’s “impossible for something like this not to ripple through the studio and affect all of us in some way or another, so please bear with us.”

“I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who’s reached out to check in on us and share their kind words of support. Genuinely, thank you, it really means a lot,” Stevens said.

It wasn’t just Everwild that got canned as part of the Xbox cutbacks, as Microsoft also canceled a new MMO from The Elder Scrolls Online developer ZeniMax Online Studios, as well as the new Perfect Dark. Microsoft also laid off numerous developers across its network of studios.

The cuts came as part of a wider downsizing effort at Microsoft that affected more than 9,000 people and against the backdrop of Microsoft investing billions into artificial intelligence projects. Some of the laid-off developers at the Microsoft-owned Candy Crush studio King say they are set to be replaced by AI systems they helped create.

Recent Killing Floor 3 Play Test Required A 5-Year NDA, Despite Game Releasing In A Few Days

Players anticipating the co-op horror shooter Killing Floor 3 are a little concerned about the state of the game ahead of its launch on July 24, as a recent play test a little over a week before launch required players sign a five-year non-disclosure agreement in order to participate.

The stress test occurred on Sunday during two, two-hour sessions, during which players could request access through Steam. However, the fine-print of an NDA required in order to play raised some eyebrows. As revealed in a post on Reddit, in addition to agreeing to not take screenshots or record gameplay of developer Tripwire Interactive’s upcoming shooter, players had to agree to not discuss the test for five years.

While NDAs are not unusual when playing early builds of games, the fact that the test required one when the full game is slated to launch close to a week later caught many players by surprise. It’s possible the five years-distinction was legal verbiage copied and pasted from previous, older playtests, but it still doesn’t inspire confidence.

Killing Floor 3 was originally supposed to arrive earlier this year on March 25, but was delayed just a few weeks before release. The requiring of a lengthy NDA for a playtest so close to launch has fans worried another delay could be on the way, but in a blog post about the stress test, Tripwire said it has been focused on optimizations and enacting player feedback so it can “ship a great game to fans on July 24.”

“This test is designed to help our team and partners ensure that the multiplayer environment stays as stable as possible at launch,” Tripwire states.

Tripwire has already laid out some of its post-launch plans for Killing Floor 3, which include improved animations, the ability for playable characters to be able to pick any perk, and the implementation of text chat.

Killing Floor 3 supports six-player co-op and features cross-play across platforms. In a hands-on preview, we said Killing Floor 3 “paints a terrific first impression” and “looks like a killer co-op package,” though only “time will tell if it can sustain itself in the long-term.”

The Sims 4 Livestream Hosted By T-Pain Coming This Week

Outside of the gaming realm, T-Pain has made a name for himself as a Grammy award-winning singer and rapper. But inside the world of The Sims 4, T-Pain is going to be a fairy while hosting a livestream of the game.

On Thursday, July 17, T-Pain will show off The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature expansion pack in a stream called “He Was a Fairy in The Sims.” Not only will T-Pain be a fairy in the livestream, but fans will also be able find that skin in The Sims 4 Gallery immediately following the event.

T-Pain will be joined in the livestream by gaming content creator itsmetroi. EA is hinting at some surprises that will be unveiled during the event without offering many details as to what they may entail.

The Enchanted by Nature expansion allows players to enter a fantasy-filled forest where they can live alongside magical creatures and even become a fairy if they choose to do so. Fairies are able to get their pick of wings with customized painting, tattoos, and other personalized touches. The game also gives fairies special powers to affect the plants of the forest, bring gnomes to life, and change the mood of other characters.

“The Sims has always felt like pure magic to me,” said T-Pain in a statement. “It’s so fun every time I play. There’s so much you can do, and now that you can be a fairy in The Sims 4, it opens up the game to a whole new level of adventure. I know we’re going to have a good time on this livestream, and I’m excited to swirl my way through all of the challenges as a Fairy!”

The “He Was a Fairy in The Sims” livestream will be available to watch on Twitch and YouTube on July 17 at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET.

WoW Is Finally Getting A Much-Needed Overhaul To Its Bank After Two Decades

World of Warcraft’s next major update is coming August 5, and now Blizzard has revealed two surprise quality-of-life changes that will arrive alongside the new content and season–a bank overhaul and a major update to Valorstones.

As announced in a forum post, in the Ghosts of K’aresh update, banks are getting a significant facelift. For as long as Blizzard’s MMORPG has existed (that is, over 20 years), players have had to purchase additional bag bank slots and then place bags within them to get more storage. That will no longer be the case come update 11.2, which will replace bag slots with purchasable storage tabs more similar to stash tabs from Blizzard’s Diablo series.

The update will additionally remove the reagent bank and Void Storage, two bank-adjacent storage options that were more restrictive. While some players were initially concerned they might be losing storage space when hearing that news, as broken down in a post by Reddit user SpartanG01 (and highlighted by Icy Veins), the new bank system seems to be a straight upgrade.

Purchasing bank tabs is cheaper than buying bag slots and users are overall gaining an additional 50 slots without any of the restrictions previously associated with Void Storage or the reagent bank. Any bank tab can now be a reagent tab if one chooses, but with the added benefit of not having to use it exclusively for reagents. It’s also less confusing, as all banking can now be done with one system as opposed to also using void storage, which was accessed via a completely different NPC and only for certain items. Funnily enough, this new bank overhaul that removes Void Storage is the first major change to item banking since the addition of Void Storage back in 2011 as part of WoW’s Cataclysm expansion.

That, however, isn’t the only surprise Blizzard had in store. Blizzard also unceremoniously announced in the game’s 11.2 public-test-realm patch notes that WoW’s main gear upgrade currencies, Valorstones, will no longer reset between seasons.

Blizzard didn’t elaborate on the change in philosophy, but it’s a huge change, as previously at the start of each new season players would need to grind Valorstones in order to start upgrading their gear. With this change, players can now stock up on Valorstones ahead of time without having to worry about them being erased in a few months, allowing players to more easily prepare for future updates.

While it’s a great change that will allow players to get a headstart on gear upgrades, it appears Valorstones are still capped at 2,000, meaning players can only stockpile so much. Maybe that will change in the future, but for now, Blizzard is at least making Valorstones a non-seasonal currency.

WoW’s Ghosts of K’aresh update will take players to the shattered homeworld of the Ethereals to stop the Void Lord Dimensius. In addition to new content and the quality-of-life features outlined above, the update will also finally add a highly-requested emote. Meanwhile, Blizzard continues to share more information about WoW’s upcoming housing system and is gearing up to fully reveal the game’s next expansion, Midnight, at Gamescom in August.

Epic Cracks Down On Fortnite Cheat Seller And DDoSer

As one of the biggest games in the world, Fortnite has long had its fair share of bad actors targeting it and its players. Epic Games has responded over the years by beefing up its safety and security capacities and investing in protective measures to ensure the stability of the game.

Recently, Epic took legal action against two individuals, a cheat seller and the perpetrator of a string of DDoS attacks against Fortnite creators. According to Epic’s comments on the matter, the DDoSer had been disrupting livestreams of Fortnite content, in addition to conducting “stream sniping” campaigns. The other person, meanwhile, had been selling and using permanent Fortnite bans.

While Epic did not share exactly what type of legal action it took, both individuals have received bans from Fortnite and have posted public apologies on their YouTube channels. Their social media accounts have also been scrubbed of content.

In their apology video, the DDoSer, Zebsi, shared that they carried out the cyberattacks under a particular username. They also apologized for the “damage” the attacks did to Epic, the community, and the targeted streamers. The cheat seller, Mirrored, admitted to using, selling, and distributing “cheats and hardware,” and they said that they had cheated in Fortnite tournaments. They also shared that they were permanently banned from the game and would face additional legal action if they cheated again.

Epic has taken a hard line against cheating in abuse in recent times, and this move to force public apologies from two individuals is a clear example of the company’s efforts to increase deterrence. Last month, Epic won a judgment against a different cheater, resulting in the levying of a $175,000 fine that the company donated to charity.

Overwatch 2 Changes Aren’t In Response To Marvel Rivals, Says Director

Late last year, Overwatch 2 got some serious competition in the realm of hero shooters when NetEase launched Marvel Rivals. A number of new Overwatch 2 features have also drawn comparisons to Marvel Rivals, including the recent reveal of the third-person Stadium mode. But according to Overwatch 2 director Aaron Keller, Stadium mode and other features weren’t made in response to Marvel Rivals. Instead, many of them were planned before Marvel Rivals debuted.

“I think that competition is healthy,” said Keller during a guest appearance on Jay3’s stream. “It does force people to innovate more and to always be putting your best foot forward, but I don’t think what you’re seeing in Overwatch 2 right now is a response to Marvel Rivals. So much of what we were doing this year–from perks to Stadium to map voting, we did full hero bans–so much of what we’re doing here and all the heroes we’re releasing has been in the works for over a year as part of a new strategy for the game to have a big annual kick off to the year.”

Keller suggested that there may things added to Overwatch 2 in the future if the games are still actively competing, but he didn’t add any specifics beyond that. During the same stream, Keller acknowledged that Overwatch 2 has had very little of the story content, cinematics, and animated shorts that helped define the world in the first game. However, he expressed a desire to place more emphasis on story in the future.

The Overwatch 2 x G.I. Joe collaboration began earlier this month and ends today, July 14. Some of the previous collaborations included a few Transformers-inspired costumes, as well as some from Street Fighter and Avatar: The Last Airbender. Overwatch Season 17 is currently active.

Here’s How Space PvP Game Wildgate Will Be Supported After Launch

Wildgate is shaping up to be a hotly anticipated launch for fans of crew-based PvP games, and developer Moonshot Games has just laid out what players can expect at and after its release. As detailed in a new roadmap, the studio aims to support the game with frequent events and seasonal content updates.

Having recently finished up an open beta, Moonshot shared what changes and additions are coming to Wildgate at and after its full release next week. On day one, Wildgate will feature player progression updates, matchmaking refinements, in-game cosmetic purchases, and a deluxe edition. Progression enhancements include the addition of an infamy system, more milestones and goals to chase, and scrap creates, according to the content roadmap.

Wildgate’s development roadmap, detailing both launch-day and post-launch content updates.

Following launch, the developer will roll out Season 1. This seasonal releases will include new in-game items like weapons and cosmetics, a new prospector, and other content. The studio is also planning to hold bi-weekly “reach anomalies,” which are additions to the game. As explained on the roadmap, “These anomalies can range from new environmental hazards to new hardpoint upgrades to new POIs. Once added, they will remain part of the game’s proceduralism pool.”

Moonshot and publisher Dreamhaven also announced that at least two more seasons will be coming in the future, and these will add new areas to the game in addition to more anomalies, weapons, equipment, and cosmetics. More post-release support is planned outside of the seasonal drops, too; mid-season patches will aim to implement changes and refinements based specifically on player feedback.

Wildgate launches on July 22 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5. It costs $30; much of the seasonal content will be free to all players, including the new weapons, equipment, characters, and anomalies. An enhanced “adventure pass” can be purchased each season to grant additional cosmetic items, but the developer has yet to announce how much this will cost.
