Samsung 990 Evo Plus 4TB SSD Gets Massive Discount Ahead Of Prime Day

A bunch of great tech deals are popping up ahead of next week’s Prime Day sales event at Amazon, including a massive price cut on the Samsung 990 Evo Plus 4TB SSD. With this high-capacity NVMe SSD now up for grabs for its lowest price ever of $235 (was $328), this is a great opportunity to upgrade your storage on PC or PlayStation 5.

While the Samsung 990 Evo Plus 4TB SSD is one of the best early Prime Day storage deals, it’s not the only SSD seeing a discount. For example, the Crucial P310 1TB is just $60 (was $74.80), and it’s fully compatible with PS5 (though it too needs a separate heatsink). But with speeds up to 7,100 MB/s, it’ll get you solid performance and save you a few bucks compared to the 1TB 990 Evo Plus.

We’ve pulled together a few of our favorite PS5 SSD deals below, so be sure to give them a look before making a purchase. All of these exceed PlayStation’s minimum requirements and also work on PC.

Ex-Ubisoft Bosses Convicted Over Workplace Harassment

In 2020, Ubisoft chief creative officer Serge Hascoët and vice president of editorial and creative services Tommy François stepped down from the company following abuse allegations. Francois and Hascoet were arrested three years later following an investigation by French authorities. Now, the trial is over and Francois and Hascoet have both been convicted alongside another former Ubisoft executive, former games director Guillaume Patrux.

All three men were sentenced to suspended prison terms for their roles in “enabling a culture of sexual and psychological harassment,” as reported by Courthouse News Service. Francois was also convicted of attempted sexual assault and given a three-year suspended sentence. During the trial, it was reported that Francois sexually harassed female and male employees, including attempts to grope their genitals.

Hascoet was handed a shorter suspended sentence of 18-months, while Patrux was given a 12-month suspended sentence for personally bullying members of his team. All three men were also ordered to pay fines, including a 45,000 euro fee for Hascoet, 30,000 euros for Francois, and 10,000 euros for Patrux.

Although the trio are no longer Ubisoft employees, the company has struggled in the last few years. The company’s French workers rebelled over a return-to-office order, and allegations of abuse emerged at one of Ubisoft’s support studios. Earlier this year, Ubisoft formed a partnership with Tencent to guide three of the company’s top franchises: Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six. Ubisoft also recently delayed multiple games and will not host Ubisoft Forward this summer.

New Fields Of Mistria Update Adds More Romance, New Monsters, And More

Since Fields of Mistria was released in early access last year, the farm life fantasy RPG has received two major updates. Now, developer NPC Studio has announced that Fields of Mistria will be getting its third major update on July 21 with a brief teaser video.

Although the post on Fields of Mistria’s X account says “romance is arriving,” dating and romantic pursuits have already been a part of the game. There are, however, more romantic features being added including eight heart events for dateable NPCs, as well as eight heart NPC dialogue routes that can lead to either romance or friendship. The NPC heart cap is also being raised from six hearts to eight hearts, and a dating mechanic is being added.

There are new mines monsters on the way, with updated monster variant mechanics and unlockable cosmetic drops from monsters. Players who want their characters to be beloved by the town will be able to raise their Renown Level cap by five additional levels. New museum sets and rewards will also be added.

Skill caps are getting a dramatic raise from level 45 to level 60, and there’s a new festival on the way in addition to two new unlockable Saturday Market vendors. Beyond those changes, cosmetic upgrades will give players the chance to customize their homes with furniture and decorations in addition to larger storage chests.

The complete notes for the update are below, but NPC Studio states that some of the details may be subject to change.

SteelSeries Universal Gaming Earbuds Get Rare Limited-Time Discount

SteelSeries gaming headset deals aren’t all that uncommon, but discounts on the manufacturer’s gaming earbuds? Those have been practically nonexistent since SteelSeries launched the Arctis GameBuds last October. But now, ahead of Prime Day 2025, Amazon is offering a great deal on the best model of the best all-around gaming earbuds we’ve tried. For a limited time, you can get the Arctis GameBuds with universal compatibility for $148 (was $200).

This model is officially licensed by Xbox and is technically marketed toward Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows players. But like all SteelSeries wireless over-ear headsets, the Xbox version offers support for PlayStation, too. And with two different connection types–2.4GHz and Bluetooth–GameBuds also work with Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, Steam Deck, PC, mobile devices–basically any device with Bluetooth audio support.

The $148 deal is the best since launch, but it’s worth noting that it sounds better today than it would have last year. The GameBuds launched with a $160 MSRP, but recently, like some other tech brands, SteelSeries raised its prices amidst economic uncertainty. The GameBuds received the largest price increase, jumping from $160 to $200. Over-ear models from SteelSeries, including our top overall and top premium gaming headset picks—Arctis Nova 7X and Arctis Nova Pro–received $20 to $30 price cuts.

The officially licensed PlayStation editions of the GameBuds are also on sale, though both the white and black editions–Xbox only has the black model–are selling for $180. Even if you’re shopping specifically for PlayStation and have no use for Xbox compatibility, you’ll probably want to snag the Xbox edition to save an extra $32.

For a closer look at the first pair of wireless gaming earbuds from SteelSeries, check out our Arctis GameBuds review from last fall.

Wireless Gaming Earbuds – Early Prime Day Deals

PlayStation and PC players should also consider Sony’s Inzone Buds while they are on sale for $158 (was $200). Inzone Buds offer markedly superior active noise cancellation and use the same audio drivers found in Sony’s flagship 1000XM5 earbuds. That said, Inzone Buds aren’t as versatile as GameBuds. You can use the included 2.4GHz USB-C dongle to connect wirelessly on PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, Steam Deck, and mobile devices.

But when it comes to Bluetooth, Sony went with Bluetooth Low Energy instead of the conventional Bluetooth 5 series (5.3 is common now). The problem with Bluetooth LE is that only a select number of Android phones support it. Apple doesn’t use Bluetooth LE, and there aren’t any major game consoles that support it either. As a result, Inzone Buds can’t double as Bluetooth earbuds for general audio on your iPhone.

I personally still use Inzone Buds with my iPhone, but just know that you’ll need to be cool with having a wireless receiver attached to your USB-C port. This also means you’ll want a wireless charger since the receiver occupies your USB-C port. You can get a two-pack of Anker wireless chargers for $28 (was $40) at Amazon. For a portable option, check out this popular 10,000mAh magnetic power bank for $23 (was $35).

For a more budget-friendly pair of gaming earbuds, the Asus ROG Cetra Wireless Earbuds are on sale for $70 (was $100). The ROG Cetra does not have ANC, but these stylish Bluetooth earbuds can sync with PS5, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android. Asus also has a higher-end model called the Speednova that adds 2.4GHz audio as well as adaptive ANC. But even with a $50 discount, the ROG Cetra Speednova costs more than the Inzone Buds and GameBuds, both of which we’d recommend over the $170 pair from Asus.

If you’d prefer a traditional over-ear gaming headset, Amazon has deals on a bunch of SteelSeries wireless headsets. Most notably, you can get the Arctis Nova 7X universal headset for $146 (was $200). For a budget option that’s also compatible with all platforms, the Arctis Nova 4X is available for only $85 (was $125).

SteelSeries also recently launched the Arctis Nova 3 Wireless Headset, which is the most affordable wireless model in the Arctis Nova lineup at full price ($110).

Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Isn’t Retiring, Despite Rumors Otherwise

The rumored Xbox layoffs arrived earlier today, and they were even deeper than expected. Microsoft made significant job cuts across the board, including the cancelation of Rare’s Everwild and a new MMO from The Elder Scrolls Online team. But Xbox boss Phil Spencer still has his job, and despite rumors to the contrary, he isn’t retiring.

Xbox’s head of communications Kari Perez told The Verge that, “Phil is not retiring anytime soon.” That was in response to a rumor spread by Call of Duty leaker GhostofHope that claimed Spencer will step down from his role as Microsoft Gaming CEO after the next-generation Xbox console launch, which would pave the way for Xbox president Sarah Bond to succeed him. As that rumor gained traction, Microsoft communications chief Frank Shaw posted on X that it was made up.

In response to the outcry over the layoffs, Spencer claimed that the cuts were necessary and touted the future of Microsoft’s gaming division.

“We must make choices now for continued success in future years and a key part of that strategy is the discipline to prioritize the strongest opportunities,” said Spencer. “We will protect what is thriving and concentrate effort on areas with the greatest potential, while delivering on the expectations the company has for our business. This focused approach means we can deliver exceptional games and experiences for players for generations to come.”

Among other canceled projects, the Perfect Dark reboot was shut down today when the studio behind it, The Initiative, was closed. Approximately 9,000 employees lost their jobs across the entire company, including non-Xbox divisions, as part of the latest round of cuts. However, a separate report suggests that all of the games from last month’s Microsoft Showcase are “safe” and they will still be released as planned.

Warcraft Rumble Will Receive “No New Content” Amidst Layoffs At Blizzard

Warcraft Rumble is shifting into life-support mode following the latest round of layoffs at Microsoft, which appears to be targeting about 4% of the company’s workforce, or around 9000 employees.

In a post on Blizzard’s blog, the studio announced that the team behind Warcraft Rumble would “continue supporting Rumble with updates focused on regular, systemic in-game events and bug fixes, but no new content. ” An email sent to staff by Blizzard president Johanna Faires about the layoffs, which was received and reported on by Aftermath, reads, “As part of these changes, we made the difficult decision to shift to a scaled down, live ops-only phase of development for Warcraft Rumble, similar to our current approach with games like StarCraft II and Heroes of the Storm.”

Warcraft Rumble, a mobile tower defense game based on Blizzard’s popular Warcraft series, was released back in 2023 after nine years in development.According to this latest announcement though, Rumble “struggled to find its footing,” and despite feedback from the community and changes implemented by the team, the efforts weren’t enough to set the game on “a path to sustainability.”

As part of the cuts at Blizzard, Aftermath reports that the number of impacted employees could be “as high as 100.” While many are being let go, others are being moved onto other projects at Blizzard, though some of these teams are also facing losses among the restructuring.

These changes to Warcraft Rumble are reflective of the ongoing layoffs at multiple Microsoft divisions, especially under Xbox.

It has been reported that an MMO from Zenimax Online Studios, the developers behind Elder Scrolls Online, has also been cancelled. The Initiative, a studio founded by Xbox to lead development on a now-cancelled Perfect Dark reboot, is being shut down and Everwild, an ambitious game from Sea of Thieves’ developer Rare, has also been canceled amidst these cuts.

Both projects had lengthy and troubled developments, with Perfect Dark eventually being partially outsourced to Crystal Dynamics for support. News around Everwild, which was announced back in 2019, quickly went cold, and after years of silence around the project, reports of the game’s development, as well as key studio departures, came out suggesting the title was being rebooted before ultimately getting axed.

The full impact of these layoffs is still being gauged as news slowly trickles out from the affected teams under Xbox’s banner.

The Witcher 4 Won’t Drag Players Down With Fetch Quests

The Witcher 4 is still a long way from players getting their hands on it, but CD Projekt Red’s team still wants fans to know that the lessons learned in the previous games will be reflected in the sequel. Narrative director Philipp Weber–who was previously the quest director for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt–recently said that The Witcher 4’s quests will embrace the example set by its predecessor. Among other things, that means Ciri won’t have to worry about meaningless fetch quests.

“We don’t do fetch quests,” Webber told GamesRadar, before expanding upon the reasons for that decision.

“A quest has to be something interesting,” said Weber. “I have to feel, as a player, that if I played that quest, my time was well spent and not just spent. I was busy doing stuff, and didn’t think about work or taxes. I experienced a story, or something else that was worth it. That basic rule is still there 100%.”

Weber went on to explain that CDPR’s core philosophy is “to let people care about what they’re doing,” and that edict remains in place for The Witcher 4. He also stressed that the lessons learned from The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 will be reflected in the way The Witcher 4 unfolds its narrative through quests and side missions.

An early look at The Witcher 4 was shared during State of Unreal in June. But as impressive as that was, CDPR later explained that it was a tech demo set in The Witcher 4 rather than the actual game. The dev team has also noted that the upcoming game is being developed with a console-first approach.

CD Projekt Red hasn’t set a date for The Witcher 4 yet, and it’s possible that it may not be ready for release until the next console generation.
